The Aftermath of Rutgers’ win

Amazing.

That’s the only response I had after Rutgers huge upset win over Louisville. And apparently like many others, sleep was the last thing anyone had on their minds.

The game received a writeup as far away as Taipei, but it was the Louisville coverage that was the most fun to read (Pisgotaway = priceless). And while Louisville may not love us right now, CNBC certainly has its share of fans.

The win obvioulsy had immediate BCS implications, which have only shifted even more when Saturday’s games were all said and done.

All of this begs the question – where exactly will RU be bowling this year?

Do You Believe It

My voice is hoarse, as I just experienced the loudest, craziest crowd ever in my history of Rutgers football games, as Rutgers made a huge comeback to beat Louisville. Never before have I heard the stadium so loud as I did tonight, the crowd so electric, standing, waving, cheering. And when all was said and done, the RU faithful gathered across the field.

The team that no one thought was a contender just showed how truly great a team can be when they all play together.

Shocked and Amazed

I was scanning through the list of ballot initiative results from around the country, and what has amazed me the most are the number of initiatives around increasing the minimum wage and pegging future raises to some index such as inflation that have actually been projected to pass.

I am definitely interested in checking out the results of some of the closer social ballot initiatives on same-sex marriage, legalizing the ganja, and stem cell research to see how those fare.

Say What

Ok, this really is THE hottest thing ever to happen to Rutgers football.

The Rutgers student section ticket allotment of 10,500 seats were distributed in just four hours Tuesday morning at the Student Ticket Gate at Rutgers Stadium. More than 1,000 Rutgers students camped out overnight outside Rutgers Stadium in anticipation of Tuesday morning’s student ticket distribution for Thursday night’s BIG EAST showdown between No. 14 Rutgers and No. 3 Louisville.

When ticket distribution commenced at 8:00 a.m. Tuesday morning, the line had grown to over 5,000 students, stretching halfway around the stadium’s perimeter.

CAMPING OVERNIGHT FOR RUTGERS FOOTBALL TICKETS? WTF?

On a related note, I saw the announcement that one of the ESPN channels will be picking up the Rutgers-Cincinatti game for a national broadcast November 18th. And the Syracuse game could still be picked up, meaning Rutgers would have had EVERY game this season televised at least regionally, if not nationally.

Say again, WTF???

Found: Miami’s Defense circa 2001
Location: Piscataway, NJ

When Rutgers picked up Greg Schiano from Miami, everyone wondered if he would really would be able to turn the football team around. After all, this was a team that was mostly terrible, a perenial loser throughout the 1990s. And, in all honesty, had been struggling for years even before that.

So with their 20-10 win over Pittsburgh on the strength of some great defense and their running game, there’s no need to wonder anymore. This team is for real.

Louisville is looking vulnerable right now. West Virginia is still a monster, but as long as Rutgers doesn’t overlook anyone, there’s a chance they could steal a win that no one expects them to get. If they do, it will be very interesting to see just where they end up at the end of the season.

Keep choppin’ Rutgers!

RU RAH RAH

Rutgers wins again to go on to start 5 – 0, beating South Florida 22-20 in a nailbiter. Ito kicked a 53 yard field goal to put Rutgers up 22-14, with South Florida driving hard to the end zone to make it 22-20 with a touchdown. The failed two point conversion and muffed onside kick saved Rutgers at the very end.

Have I mentioned how freakin’ great it is to have a winning football team?

Pot Kettle Black

Why is it that on the one hand the House of Representatives is investigating HP for investigating its leakers while on the other hand it fails to protect journalists who publish leaks?

What the hell do you stand for?

Say What

I subscribed to CNN’s “Premium Service”, giving me access to streaming live video through CNN’s Pipeline program. Overall I’m pretty happy, the quality is decent and it works from any Internet-accessible computer. Given that I get access to CNN International, an improved version of CNN’s domestic US cable channel, I’m even happier.

However, it speaks volumes about your staff when you’re listening in the background to a weather report about a typhoon in Manila (The Philippines), and the reporter says “the storm is heading to Xialan or Zylan or whatever you want to call it”. Nice to know you put some professional effort in to your job.

No, I have no idea what the actual city name is. But this isn’t a professional blog, either.

Every Dog Has His Day

Here’s your ironic story for the day. Last week Dog the Bounty Hunter was arrested to face an extradition and charges in Mexico. About what, you might ask? Turns out the bust he and his fellows did on Max Factor heir Andrew Luster in Mexico, which launched their storied career and TV show, was illegal. According to Mexican law, bounty hunting is a crime. Kidnapping (illegal detention), too. When you throw in the fact that he and his crew essentially jumped bail, it makes a hell of a tale. Bounty Hunter busted for hunting bounties jumps bail and gets taken down by The Man.

Delicious.

Finally Football Not Foosball

Amazing.

Rutgers football cracked the top 25 for the first time in my life. ESPN’s writeup even started out with this bit.

No joke. Rutgers is ranked.

The Scarlet Knights, long a college football laughingstock, moved Sunday into The Associated Press Top 25 for the first time since the final poll of the 1976 season.
